Space Age, Dynamic, Advanced, and Inspirational were all superlatives used to describe the original Avanti, made by Studebaker. Studebaker's advertising proclaimed those things in full page ads which showed the Avanti and its interesting styling. When Studebaker Corporation folded in 1963 a group of Studebaker dealers bought the tooling, left over parts, and rights to the Avanti name. They went on to hand build a small number of cars under the Avanti Motor Corporation name. The car was called the Avanti II. The car you see here is a 1983 Avanti II finished in Red over a Tan interior and currently showing approximately 9,782 miles.

Obviously the Avanti had a special attraction to a great many people, as the Avanti-style car was produced by a few different Incorporations or groups over the years, finally ceasing to be produced in 2006. This special Avanti II has been preserved by a collector since it was purchased new from the Avanti Motor Corporation which in 1983 was based in South Bend Indiana, just as Studebaker was. It's been well preserved over the years, with just a few small nitpicky things to be found in terms of condition.

A space age shape of the early 1960's is exactly what the Avanti is. Compared to other vehicles of the era, this car was quite a bit different. This Avanti II which mimics the Studebaker Avanti's styling, looks gorgeous in the Deep Red paint that has been chosen for this car. The exterior has been very well preserved including the chrome bumpers and trim. A creme colored pinstripe makes its way around the car, and even highlights the raised portion of the hood. Taking the car further in the direction of a regal, luxury car are the chrome wire wheels wrapped in GoodYear Double Eagle white wall tires. Keep a bottle of metal polish and BlecheWhite handy for that wheel and tire combination.

Luxury is the name of the game inside the car, with an interior that may remind you of a Jaguar, or maybe a Rolls Royce interior. The interior is very well preserved with only warping and some peeling of the wood trim as being noticeable blemishes. Thick pile carpet, a large wood steering wheel (Nardi in this case), chrome bezels, pleated leather seats and door cards, wood trim, leather headliner, and a simple shifter mounted in the wood trimmed center console. A grouping of easy to read gauges are adorned by wood trim, and the controls for interior or exterior lights, and fan speed are mounted above the windshield.

Under the hood is a 305 cubic inch V8 mated to an automatic transmission. The underside of the car shows very nicely, obviously well preserved. A little surface oxidation is noticeable on a few components, but it is clear by looking at the photos that this car is very well preserved, and in great condition.

Just 283 Avanti II cars were produced for the 1983 model year. By 1983 they weren't considered Space Age, but they were luxurious, dynamic, and still inspirational. This car is a beautiful example of an early-80's Avanti II, and with such low mileage, you would be hard pressed to find another as nice. Please call if interested or e-mail with specific questions.
