For those who like their martinis shaken not stirred, we have for your consideration a version of yet another amazing car that was used in a James Bond film. A Q-Branch modified BMW Z8 complete with missiles was used in the film The World is Not Enough, however in the film the car was destroyed after being cut in half by a helicopter. We prefer a complete Z8 rather than a half, and aren't too sure about a Z8 that has missiles. Heavy weapons must affect the power to weight ratio.

Henrik Fisker designed the exterior of the Z8, which at the time it was released was quite different from the rest of the BMW lineup. The car looks very similar to the Aston Martin DB9, which is another car that Mr.Fisker oversaw the design of. While there are visual similarities to the Aston Martin, it is said that the Z8 was a nod to the classic BMW 507 roadsters of the late '50's. 524 Z8's were produced for the 2002 model year. The car you see here is a 2002 BMW Z8 Roadster finished in bright Red over Nappa Black leather interior, and showing 9,884 miles on the digital odometer.

The exterior is finished in BMW's flashy “Hellrot” color, or “Hell Red” as translated from German. You can't go wrong with a red sports car, and Hellrot is a deep red that looks amazing on this Z8. The devil is in the details when looking at this Z8. Carefully placed design elements like chrome trim in the front grilles, front fenders, door handles, and the tail light assemblies draw your eyes around the car. Other than the car's flowing curves, the car is quite simple. This example has beautiful paint, which has paint protection film on the side sills, and the lower rear bumper valance. Among the interesting features of the exterior are the Neon lights, which are found in the tail light assemblies, and the side turn signals which are integrated into the fender vent assemblies.

The interior was designed by Scott Lempert, and retro styling cues reminiscent of the BMW 507 were used. Black Nappa leather can be found on many surfaces including the heated seats. The interior is well kept throughout and features a “banjo-style” steering wheel, central gauge binnacle, silver switches and buttons, and piano black trim on the doors, dashboard, and center console. The car also comes with an anti-buffeting screen which attaches to the roll hoops.

Those familiar with BMW M Cars will recognize the engine in the tidy engine bay. It's an S62 V8 engine, shared with the E39 Generation M5. The engine kicks out just shy of 400 horsepower, and in a small, all aluminum car like the Z8, that's plenty of power to have fun with. A 6-speed manual transmission handles gear selection while power is put to the pavement via the rear wheels. Split-five spoke alloy wheels measure in at 18” on all four corners and are wrapped in Michelin tires. The underside of the car is tidy with heat shields, and the exhaust snaking under the car being the focal point. The car comes with the tool and first aid kits, extra Z8 books, and a matching factory hardtop.

It's not quite as understated in color as James Bond's Z8, but the deep red suits this car well. We hate to disappoint you with the news that this Z8 does not come with missiles, but we assure you that from a performance perspective that is a good thing. This low mileage Z8 is a future classic that is beautiful looking, and offers a great driving experience. Please call if interested or e-mail with questions. Thank you for looking.
